What’s Having Fun Like Anyway?
Having fun is relative just like what makes us happy is. I have fun playing with my cat. I have fun just being with him. That may sound strange, but it’s my idea of fun. Not yours. I know his days are limited. Maybe I’ll have him around for another year since he’s already 15 and has frequent asthma attacks. So it’s enjoyable for me to have him resting on one of my hands as I type. On some level, I could say it’s even fun. Happiness to me is the same. I’m happy that my cat Strawberry is breathing okay at this moment as I type and that he’s purring. That doesn’t mean that I’m not tired right now or upset knowing my cat is not completely well. I got all that going on. We all have lots going on even though maybe only one or two things stands out to us. And I believe we can hold it all–the happiness, the sadness, the tiredness, and everything else. But to hold it all, we have to choose it all. And we do that by recognizing that it’s all going on–often at the same time. It’s important to recognize that and be responsible for all of it. We are not just “one way.” We are many ways. And we have fun many ways–even if the way we have fun doesn’t look like the way T.V. commercials tell us fun should look like. That doesn’t mean we aren’t having fun and enjoying life.
