Why Stretch Yourself?
Either you believe there is always room for growth or you don’t. Strangely, even though we are living in the twentieth century a lot of people don’t even consider stretching yourself. And on top of that, they don’t know how. Mainly, they don’t know that they can. Many people are convinced that the person they are is the person they always were and will always be. BUT IT AIN’T SO. We are changing all the time–sometimes for the better and other times fort he worse. It’s strange that so many of us don’t notice us. And don’t even think about stretching themselves, that is, going further in accomplishing their goals and achieving their dreams.
I know it’s challenging, especially with a full life, which we all have. We have to be concerned about making a living, our health, and our families. And those take time and attention Unfortunately, too many of us put our attention almost exclusively on our jobs. So some of us stretch ourselves there. And that is great. But why don’t we also stretch ourselves at home, with our families, and our dreams.
Do we really believe that it’s not going to get any better than the way it is, that we aren’t? Do we really believe that our lives are as good as they are going to get at this time? That may or may not be true. But it will certainly be true if you don’t stretch yourself–and not just on your job, though that’s great, but also in your personal life, in your relationships, and towards accomplishing your dreams.
If we want a better world for our children and grand children, we owe to ourselves to stretch ourselves. And we do that by telling the truth to ourselves regarding where we feel stopped in life. To stretch ourselves, we have to know where we are. And we need to be responsible for where that is and how we got there.
